The original Iota Phi chapter of Sigma Alpha Iota was installed on November 15, 1945 at Peabody College in Nashville, Tennessee.  However, shortly before  Peabody merged with Vanderbilt University in 1979, the chapter became inactive.  In 1981, the Blair School of Music joined Vanderbilt, and in 1999, nearly twenty years after its dissolution from Peabody, the Iota Phi chapter was reinstalled at Blair.  In the spring of 2000, the chapter welcomed its first group of initiates, increasing the size of the chapter by sixteen, and inducting its first two patroness members, Norma Gandy and Judy Turner.
In the spring of 2013, the chapter initiated eight new members.  The chapter is now twenty-six members strong and we are enthusiastic about the coming year.  We continue to strengthen our relationships with the music community of Nashville through our work at the W.O. Smith School and engagements with other local organizations. We also work closely with the Blair School of Music to serve that community of musicians and enrich the Blair community.
